#13 Technorati

January 15, 2009

Right now I’m exploring the Blog Directory: no searching here, this is a hierachical arrangement of blogs by subject.

Searching in the advanced form, exact phrase: Library 2.0 (with a lot of authority) gives me 200 hits.

Adding in tags only down to 186 hits.

Searching Library 2.0 gives me 365 blogs to look at, but they are blogs about Library 2.0. This would be the way to go to get concentrated info on Library 2.0

Next Up: Popular Blogs
Most popular is Boing Boing being “a weblog of cultural curiosities and interesting technologies.” So people who read blogs are drawn in by the new and different. Or, people who read blogs a lot are drawn in by the new and different.

Next most popular blog is about how to make more money on your blog. Probably a bunch of money-grubbing Americans who have already sold all their unwanted STUFF on eBay. ;-)

#12 Del.icio.us & Tagging

January 14, 2009

OK! Again, in the interest of time, I will not create an account, but I can see where this could be useful if you didn’t have computing devices of your own, or you were traveling and using other computers … like in a library or internet cafe?

Anyway, some of the most popular bookmarks on Delicious are really worth looking at! For example: Best typeface designs of 2008 and 10 free stock photography sites.

#11 LibraryThing

This looks like it could be useful if you wanted to start keeping track of your personal library, or what you’ve read or for a small library to digitize their catalog and make it available on the web. I’m thinking of a church library.

ALA does “READ” posters. Hows this for integrating interests?

#9 Find some interesting library blogs

January 14, 2009

So far, the Shifted Librarian (theshiftedlibrarian.com) looks quite good. The posts seem to be forward-looking, with links to video and audio files.

The ResourceShelf (www.resourceshelf.com) is pretty interesting too. Did you know there is now an online repository of MLK’s papers. Don’t know if it’s complete, but it’s a start.

#8 RSS Feeds

January 14, 2009

RSS Feeds looks like a good idea. I’ve bookmarked my Bloglines account and now I can read what interests me anytime I’m on the web.

The problem will be to identify just the things that I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to read. As it is, I can hardly read all the email I get!!!

#7 Blog about technology

January 14, 2009

This week I am thinking about the iPhone and similar devices. How great to have all that (phone, calendar, contacts, memos, music & videos, internet access) all in one device. To sync wirelessly and recharge wirelessly … too cool and convenient for words.

Stay tuned to David Pogue!

So that’s done.

Life-long learning.
Always learning. If not you may as well be dead. And yes, challenges can force us to learn … may as well enjoy the ride and dig in.
Learning is one of the most up-lifting things you can do.

#6 More Flickr Fun

January 12, 2009

Now I’ve seen Mappr and Trading Cards made on Flickr.

The Trading Cards look like great fun and an opportunity to be very creative. Why not create one for a friend for a birthday gift? Print up a stack (deck) and let the birthday person give them to all his/her friends!
